About the Sidlow Group

Brief History of the Business and Current Operations

Our dealerships, equipment and systems are the most modern available and we constantly invest in the latest technology to give you the best local experience of the brands of cars we represent.

The Woods group of companies was founded by Claude Woods in 1936 operating from a petrol filling station and repair workshop at Sidlow Bridge, Reigate, Surrey under the name of Sidlow Garage.  In 1958 a small local self drive car rental business was acquired.  Claude retired in 1980, since then the business has been owned and managed by his two sons.

The Sidlow Garages business has grown substantially to the present dealership structure of Volkswagen, Seat, Peugeot and Alfa Romeo operating from five locations covering a territory which includes Reigate and Redhill, Gatwick, Crawley, Horsham and East Grinstead.

The car rental business grew to a fleet of over 3,000 vehicles operating out of fifteen locations nationwide under the name Sidlow/Woods Car Rental.  A significant part of this business was sold to Budget rent a car in 1999 and now Woods operates a fleet of approximately 400 vehicles based at Gatwick and Glasgow.

The group employs more than 200 people.
